Lawrence Ati Zigi, the goalkeeper for the Black Stars, says he is very eager to play in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be the first World Cup with 48 teams.
After participating in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with the Black Stars, this year’s competition marks the second of the St. Gallen shot stopper’s career.
One of three goalies chosen for Ghana’s 26-man roster, Ati Zigi will play in the group stage against Panama, Croatia, and England.
Joseph Anang of St. Patrick Athletic and Benjamin Asare of Accra Hearts of Oak are Ghana’s other goalkeepers besides Ati Zigi.
“We want to play in the final game and win the World Cup for Ghana,” Ati Zigi told GFA media as Ghana prepared for its debut match versus Panama on June 17.
“As a child, everyone fantasizes about playing on this huge stage, and for me, it’s actually a great ambition because you get to compete against top players… “It’s a really nice experience and I’m looking forward to it.”
“I don’t think worried is the right word. “I think there is a positive team spirit, and this demonstrates that everyone is prepared,” Ati Zigi stated.
