EFL Championship team Sheffield United announced on Tuesday that they had acquired Jordan Ayew on a free transfer.
Ayew left Leicester City in July after his contract expired, and he has now returned to the Championship, signing a one-year deal with the Blades.
“I talked about being close to getting someone in from the free agency market last week, and things moved pretty quickly, so I’m really happy to have Jordan with us,” Sheffield United manager Wilder said.
We’re discussing someone who has a lot of experience playing at the highest level of the game. He is a man with legitimate pedigree because he was leading Ghana in the World Cup only a few months ago.
He played all over the frontline throughout his career, which offers us a lot of options, and he performed well at this level last season in trying situations.
“We utilized the free market to great effect last season, and we believe Jordan can come in and have an impact here just like Pat (Bamford) and Jaïro (Riedewald) did.”
With Sheffield United winning only one of their first five games, the Blades will be relying on the 34-year-old Ghana captain’s experience to help them recover from their bad start to the season.
Having previously represented Aston Villa, Swansea City, Crystal Palace, and Leicester City in the Premier League, Ayew has over ten years of expertise in the English game.
