Over the next three years, MTN Ghana will spend more than $1.1 billion to grow and improve its telecommunications network, which includes deploying 5G services across the nation, according to Samuel Nartey George, Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations.
According to the Minister, the investment is part of attempts to solve ongoing network issues, improve connection, and expand dependable telecommunications services to marginalized communities.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Monday, September 7, Sam George stated that the investment includes approximately $380 million set aside for the current year to enhance network coverage, roll out more cell sites, and support the growth of 5G infrastructure.
The magnitude of the investment, he said, shows MTN Ghana’s dedication to improving its network architecture and addressing the rising need for dependable and high-speed connection.
“MTN Ghana has pledged more than $1.1 billion over the next three years, including approximately $380 million this year to expand coverage, deploy new sites, and support 5G rollout. We have a total of 800 additional cell sites, the most the company has built in a decade, especially in the rural and peri-urban areas where network issues have been the worst.
“I personally collaborate with MPs to pinpoint the locations in their districts that were most severely impacted; this is the first time such a large-scale project has been carried out, and 180 of these sites are currently operational and handling traffic.”
