The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has revealed that it has saved around GHC 700,000 following the reduction of the budget for the Black Stars in two games, that is against Chad and Mali.

The minister disclosed this when the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang visited the ministry. He highlighted that this signifies the exit from past administration, where more than GHC 1.5 million was mostly expended on the senior national team the Black Stars for similar tasks.
“We have worked together with the FA to make sure we rationalise our budgeting and release processes. This in a way has saved close to GHC 700,000 in two games involving the Black Stars because in the past, as a ministry, we used to do about GHC 2 million. With this rationalisation, we are doing GHC 1.3 million,” he said.
Hon. Kofi Adams revealed intentions to launch a new governing board for the Ghana Sports Fund on 23rd January. He detailed that the move is directed at boosting resource mobilisation to support sporting activities all over the country.

The Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang on the other hand encouraged the ministry to delve into sustainable ways of increasing the Ghana Sports Fund. She stressed that funding for sports activities must go beyond appeals.
“I want to urge that we find many , many ways of raising the funds beyond appeals and even creating the facilities that generate the funds and taking very good care of them,” she said.

She then instructed the various ministries to frequently evaluate their performance and measure it against the aims specified in the government’s manifesto and make upgrade where necessary.
