Otto Addo has been fired for the abysmal performance of the team, with Carlos Queiroz now announced as the new coach of the Black Stars by the Ghana Football Association (GFA). Following a GFA Executive Committee meeting, at which the three-man shortlist was extensively deliberated upon, the GFA has since proposed Queiroz to the administration as their number one target to lead the nation’s first team into the next phase.

Queiroz, the oldest on the shortlist at 73 years of age, one of three high-profile managers whom the GFA is understood to have assessed by way of interview held by the GFA on Friday April 10, 2026, as part of its broader plan to re-establish belief in the Black Stars structure.
The experienced Portuguese tactician, has previously supervised top teams in national football and served as the head coach for Real Madrid, in addition to managing countries like Iran, Colombia, and Egypt. He led Iran to several FIFA World Cup campaigns and is highly regarded for his tactical discipline.

His appointment sees Ghana shift towards an experienced structure, as it continues to build and prepares for upcoming international competitions like the 2026 FIFA World Cup, that takes place in the United States, Mexico and Canada, in which Ghana’s grouping will be alongside the likes of Panama, England and Croatia, as they compete for qualification in group L.
