As the first recipient of its newly established National Health Compact, France has chosen Ghana following high-level bilateral discussions between President John Mahama and French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris.
Following a state visit by President Mahama, President Macron made the announcement on Wednesday, April 8.

It was a component of a larger conversation between the two leaders that addressed important topics such as health, agriculture, infrastructure, artificial intelligence, regional security, and Ghana’s economic recovery.
The planned Accra-Kumasi Expressway, which needs cooperation as a vital infrastructure endeavor, was also brought up during the discussion.

In addition, President Macron highlighted the value of the Accra Reset Initiative, which is being spearheaded by President Mahama, by mentioning that it has been widely recognized in recent international forums.
Before his formal encounter with President Macron, President Mahama was given a full state welcome with military honors at Les Invalides.

Reflecting the long history of diplomatic ties between France and Ghana, the ceremony was characterized by accuracy and tradition.
President Mahama also spoke with Gérard Larcher, the President of the French Senate, as part of the visit, with the conversation focusing on fostering trade and investment relations, improving regional security, and increasing collaboration in the fight against terrorism.

The improving economic prospects of Ghana, as well as France’s assistance to maternal health and agriculture in the nation, were also highlighted.
A high-level delegation, including Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, National Security Advisor Prosper Bani, Secretary to the President Callistus Mahama, Presidential Advisor and Special Aide Joyce Mogtari, and Ghana’s Ambassador to France Mavis Frimpong, accompanied the President.
