In the first month of 2026, the value of the Ghana cedi has fallen by 4.0% against the US dollar.
In January 2026, the cedi traded at GH¢10.88 for every US greenback, according to the Bank of Ghana’s Summary of Economic and Financial Data from that month. In December 2025, this is compared with GH10.45.
The local currency was sold for GH12.00 for one American greenback on the retail market.
With a 3.9% fall against the US dollar, the cedi began January 2025. In February 2025 and March 2025, the depreciation trend persisted before ending in April 2025.
The local currency has increased 43% in value against the American dollar since January 1, 2025, according to May 2025 data. The cedi ended 2025 with a year-to-date gain of 40.7%, and the strong appreciation persisted throughout the remainder of the year.
In January 2026, the cedi, on the other hand, fell 4.9% and 4.1% against the pound and the euro, respectively.
In the interbank market, it traded at GH14.77 per pound and GH12.80 per euro.
Over a two-week period, Cedi records produced a mixed performance.
The Ghanaian cedi’s performance during the previous two weeks was erratic, with a minor decline in the interbank market and a rise in the retail sector.
The midpoint rate of the US dollar/Ghana cedi pair in the interbank market was GH¢10.88, an increase from GH¢10.70.
The pound and euro, however, fell against the cedi by 2.70% and 2.57%, respectively, to close at GH14.78 and GH12.80.
On the other hand, the retail rates showed a slight gain for the dollar against the cedi, rising from GH¢12.15 to GH¢11.90, while the pound and euro increased by 1.58% and 2.18%, respectively, ending at midrates of GH¢15.80 and GH¢13.75, respectively.
