The government has paid all outstanding debts to contractors engaged in the Suame Interchange project since 2024, according to Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister.
He claims that the contractor will be back on site shortly to continue the job and ensure that it is finished on time.
During an interview with reporters on the sidelines of a pilgrimage to Fomena to witness the ‘Sagranti War’ as part of AshantiFest on Wednesday, April 1, Dr. Amoakohene made this revelation.
His remarks come a day after traders and craftsmen at Suame Magazine blocked sections of the road close to the project site, citing excessive dust and delays in the interchange’s construction.
In response to the worries, the Minister reaffirmed that the payment of arrears has allowed building operations to resume.
“Work on the interchange will resume next week, now that all debts owed to the contractors from 2024 have been paid,” he said.
As part of a larger infrastructure development initiative, he also stated that the administration is taking measures to upgrade additional road networks in the area, such as the Mankranso and Santasi roads.
