The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary for the Ayawaso East Constituency in Ghana was won by Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, the country’s High Commissioner to Nigeria. To choose the party’s candidate for the next by-election, the primary took place on Saturday, February 7, 2026.
With 431 votes, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, with 399 votes, Hajia Amina Adam, with 88 votes, Mohammed Ramme, with 45 votes, Dr. Yakubu Azindow, and with 1 vote, Mohammed Najib, were all elected. The sum of these numbers from both voting locations is shown here.

There was a lot of public curiosity in the primary, which was fiercely contested, especially during talks about campaign behavior. As a token of goodwill and not with the intention of swaying the election, Baba Jamal’s campaign gave delegates goodies like 32-inch TVs and hard-boiled eggs during the primary.
The NDC will now be guided into the Ayawaso East by-election by Baba Jamal.
In the interim, citing current polling data and prevailing voter trends in the constituency, Mussa Dankwah, Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, predicted that Baba Jamal’s support in the Ayawaso East NDC parliamentary primary was unlikely to surpass 38%.
With an estimated 54% of the vote, Hajia Amina Adam, the widow of the late Mahama Naser Toure, the former Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, was in the lead in the polls that were scheduled for Saturday, February 7, according to the forecast.
Mr. Dankwah stated that even in the best-case scenario for Baba Jamal, the data revealed a significant gap between the two leading candidates, making a dramatic late change in voter choice unlikely.
