The Ghana Police Service has arrested a total of 77 people from several areas known for their involvement in drug dealing/trafficking during an operation on 23rd March, 2026 at approximately 9:30 pm throughout theTamale Metropolis and Savelugu Municipality that was carried out by the Northern Region Police Command’s Special Operations Team (Red Maria).
According to a press release from the Command on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, the operation included 33 individuals, as a continuation of the Command’s efforts to combat drug-related crime in its area.

One individual was located in Tamale at Lamashigu (the site of first apprehendee) and many other “known hotspots” were targeted by law enforcement during the operation.
Next, the team entered the Aboabo market district and arrested one individual there who was in possession of a white powder which was suspected to be cocaine.

At NOBISCO, officers arrested one alleged drug supplier based on information obtained during the operation. No incriminating evidence was found during a search of his residence.
Later in Savelugu, the operation was expanded significantly and 74 additional suspects were arrested at another known drug trafficking location, bringing the total number of suspects arrested this night to 77.

Authorities seized several items during the raid: 10 packets of tramadol, a Toyota Camry, 7 motorcycles, and what appeared to be dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
The police reported all suspect are in custody and cooperating with their investigation. The suspects are in custody and will face charges if it is determined by police.

To assist in crime fighting, the Northern Regional Police Command called members of the community to provide accurate and timely information to assist Law Enforcement.
