In relation to a shooting incident involving Sarah Adwoa Safo, the former Dome-Kwabenya MP, and her brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, also known as Akofena, has been taken into custody by the Ghana Police Service.
The suspect reported himself to the Regional Police Headquarters a day after the incident, according to a police statement issued on June 22, 2026.
To aid with continuing investigations, he was eventually transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters.
According to the police, a search on his vehicle and home in Kwabenya turned up a large amount of ammunition and guns.
Two Glock pistols (one registered to his name), 120 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 50 rounds of .45 calibre ammunition, 25 rounds of .40 calibre ammunition, and other loaded magazines were among the things recovered.
Nana Kwaku Afriyie and Kwadwo Safo Koomson, two additional suspects, were detained after additional inquiries.
According to the police, the two are also helping with the investigation into the shooting’s circumstances.
All three suspects are now being held by the police and will appear in court on June 23, 2026. The Ghana Police Service stated that the case’s investigation is still ongoing.
Reports of a shooting incident involving Ms Adwoa Safo at an Israel Safo-connected property in the Greater Accra Region prompted the arrests.
Against the backdrop of a fierce succession battle inside the Kristo Asafo Mission after the death of its founder, Apostle Professor Kwadwo Safo, in September of last year, the event took place.
Over the leadership of the church and its connected organizations, competing claims have emerged from the conflict, and legal actions have already started concerning the succession process.
In a statement released previously, the Kwadwo Safo family claimed that the shooting happened when Ms. Adwoa Safo went to serve a court injunction designed to stop her younger brother, Israel Safo, from being inducted into office.
Additionally, the family asserted that the battle involved gunfire, which is the focus of the current police investigation.
