Four suspected individuals of a robbery organization thought to be responsible for a brutal robbery targeting a gold merchant in Tarkwa’s Wassa Akropong have been detained by the Western Central Regional Police Command.
On March 11, 2026, around 11:00 p.m., the complainant, Mr. Orls Oduro, was attacked by armed men while returning home after closing his gold-buying business in Tamakloe, according to a robbery report. The arrests come after this robbery.
According to the police, Mr. Oduro had rented an Okada driver to transport him home to Wassa Akropong when the robbers stopped them and held them at gunpoint.
Allegedly stolen items during the occurrence included an iPhone XR, a Techno Spark 12 smartphone, six matches and seven pounds of gold valued at GH¢94,530,000, and GH¢24,000 in cash.
According to the Police, investigations began right away following the report.
At Duaso and Domeabra, an intelligence-led operation that took place on July 21 and 22, 2026, resulted in the capture of four individuals:
25-year-old Kwabena Amuah, often known as IK.
28-year-old Mallam, also known as Mohammed Nasir.
Samuel Agyei, also known as Okese-1, 24 years old
Brefo, also known as Kofi Gyasi, is 26 years old.
On July 23, 2026, the Wassa Akropong District Court arraigned the suspects, and they were sent to Police custody to help with the continuing investigation.
According to the Western Central Regional Police Command, efforts are being made to apprehend Agogo, another suspect who’s full name has not been discovered yet.
The Command has pleaded with the public to report any verifiable information about the suspect’s whereabouts to the closest Police Station.
The Police assured citizens and businesses in the area of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and bringing those engaged in criminal activity to justice.
The estimated worth of the stolen gold, which is around GH¢94.5 million, has brought renewed scrutiny to organized robbery schemes that target gold dealers in mining towns.
