Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of Government Communications, has said that topics pertaining to LGBTQ+ rights are not a top priority for Ghanaians, emphasizing that the government is still concentrating on important socioeconomic challenges.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu stated on The Pulse on April 7, 2026, that the problem is not one of the main worries of the general public.
“This is not a big deal.” It’s just another waste of time. “NPP, they specialize in wasting everyone’s time,” he remarked.
When the majority of citizens are more concerned with economic survival and livelihoods, he questioned why the issue should dominate national discussion.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu maintained that the topic is less relevant to the average Ghanaian due to the realities of daily life.
“Ghanaians wake up in the morning thinking about how to get to work, how to make a living, and how to make ends meet. Do all Ghanaians consider that bill their top priority? No. He maintained that it was meaningless.
He asserted that the government’s priorities are in line with the demands of the populace, such as employment, education, health care, food security, and access to water.
The President’s stance was also mentioned by Mr. Kwakye Ofosu, who said that, even though foreign players may keep pushing for progress on LGBTQ+ issues, Ghana’s national priorities should continue to be the welfare of its citizens.
“The most important issues are the ones that have an impact on the lives of Ghanaians,” he stated.
Additionally, he slammed the prominence that his political rivals gave to the legislation, arguing that it does not address the most urgent issues facing the nation.
“Which president, whether in office or attempting to be elected, should prioritize LGBTQ+ issues above all else?” He asked, “It’s not about the wellbeing of the common people?”
Demanding an apology over the President’s remarks is unwarranted, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said.
He came to the conclusion that “there is nothing to apologize for.”
