President John Dramani Mahama has called for an emergency Cabinet meeting in response to the rising fuel prices due to the continuing conflict in the Middle East.
The meeting will focus on finding practical solutions to help protect Ghanaians from the impact of rising oil prices, President Mahama said on the second day of the Kwahu Business Forum held on Saturday, April 4, 2026.
“I have called this emergency meeting so we can discuss various actions we might take to try to reduce fuel prices while we wait for the war to end. We can adjust certain components, particularly in the margins, to allow us to keep prices somewhat stable as we wait for the war to end,” he stated.
In addition to analyzing the various aspects of the rise in fuel prices, Cabinet would look for ways to provide assistance during this difficult period and reiterated his government’s commitment to reducing the burden of its citizens.
“I guarantee you that the conflict in Iran will not affect the economy,” he said.
He commended transport unions for their decision to refrain from raising lorry fares in relation to the increase in fuel prices; according to him, that decision will help keep the balance.
Petrol prices increased by approximately 15% (GH¢13.30 per litre) and diesel prices had risen by approximately 19% (GH¢17.10 per litre) as of April 1-15 2026, according to figures provided by The National Petroleum Authority for April 1 to 15.
