Although Ghana has established structures to ensure readiness for the next FIFA World Cup, it is not yet entirely ready, according to Kofi Iddie Adams, the minister of sports and recreation.
On Monday, March 30, during an interview with Bernard Avle on Channel One TV’s The Point of View, the minister addressed queries about the nation’s readiness, both as a team and as a whole.
“We have systems in place that will be ready when we need to be, even if I can’t say we are 100% ready. As we saw in the 2026 budget, the government has made certain budgetary commitments for the team financially,” he stated.
According to Mr. Adams, World Cup preparation includes more than just the Black Stars’ on-field play; there are also plans for more general national events.
“The World Cup transcends the team and the Black Stars’ performance. You have a lot to accomplish. You want to execute a number of activations because you also want to promote the nation outside of the 90 minutes that they will be playing,” he said.
He disclosed that the government has set aside a sum of $30 million for Ghana’s World Cup bid, which includes promotional and team-related expenses.
“We therefore have other activities we engage in that, when added up, give us a total of $30 million. If we are moving from the group stage to the fiinals, the squad has access to a $16 million appropriation during the World Cup. Their food, training, lodging, per diems, and bonuses are all part of our culture. He continued, “Bonuses aren’t always a negative thing.”
