Today, Monday, March 9, the members of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) will begin an open-ended nationwide strike.
The association claims that the strike is in response to ongoing delays in putting their agreed-upon terms of service into practice.
Because members of the organization make up a significant portion of the administrative workforce in local government offices across the nation, the industrial action is anticipated to have an impact on operations in a number of ministries, departments, and agencies.
The leadership of CLOGSAG insists that the choice to start the strike was made after many failed efforts to talk with the administration about the issue.
Notwithstanding a National Labour Commission order instructing the group to postpone the planned strike and resume discussions, the action occurred.
But the government’s response to their issues has been insufficient, according to CLOGSAG, which has ordered its members to ignore the order and continue with the industrial action.
Prior to the strike, Edmund Aquaye, the association’s public relations officer, stated that the union had not received any official word from the government since the strike notice was released last week.
“The National Executive Council of CLOGSAG has not yet heard from our employer since we announced the strike last Thursday, and for that reason, our strike is still ongoing. Wherever they may be, we implore all CLOGSAG members not to go to work on March 9, he said.
