Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, has announced that he wants to run for National Chairman of the party, arguing that his experience and track record are more important than his proficiency in English.
Prior to the NPP’s national executive elections in September 2026, Wontumi addressed party members in the Western Region and refuted the idea that language ability should be the measure of leadership potential.
The outspoken NPP supporter emphasized his wealth of experience within the party, pointing out that his grassroots ties and strategic planning abilities make him the best person to lead the party to victory in elections.
He encouraged members to give priority to realistic leadership traits and outcomes over superficial indicators like verbal fluency.
“Don’t base your opinion of me on my command of the language. Judge me based on my skills. Don’t rate me on my English; rate me on my accomplishments and skills. Judge me by the strategies I can implement to win the 2028 elections. “Because, after all, I won’t be speaking English when I go to the markets to campaign, as the market women don’t speak English,” he stated.
Before the national executive elections, the NPP has already started its internal reorganization, with member registration planned for March 1–31.
