The Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, indicated on Wednesday 25 February 2026 that Medikal has been appointed an ambassador for the National Youth Authority’s (NYA) anti-drug campaign aimed at preventing young people from using a synthetic drug called ‘red’ through the use of the musician’s influence to strengthen the anti-substance abuse message for at-risk youth throughout Ghana.
The Minister also stated that through the appointment of Medikal, the NYA hopes to utilize the popularity and impact of the musician on the youth of Ghana through the use of music and social media to raise additional awareness and promote substance-free living.
He stated, “The appointment of a well-known Ghanaian musician, Medikal, as an official ‘Red Means Stop’ ambassador of the National Youth Authority is part of a strategy to improve the appeal and credibility of the campaign to those between the ages of 10 and 30 years. Medikal’s high level of influence among Ghanaian youth through music and social media makes him an ideal promoter of substance-free living”.
In addition, the Minister stated that the ambassador will serve as a visible role model in promoting drug-free living through public events/appearances and online engagement. This will include participating in youth engagement and outreach activities, featuring ‘Red Means Stop’ themes in music videos and performances, and supporting advocacy training and mobilization efforts.
Additionally, Mr Opare Addo stated that the NYA has introduced initiatives to bolster the fight against substance abuse coinciding with Medikal’s ambassadorial appointment
