For having illegal firearms and an alleged conspiracy to commit a theft, three young men are being held by the Ghana Police Service’s Ahafo Regional Command.
Johnson Mawutor, 26; Kelvin Ofori, 22; and Mawuli Dogba are the suspects who were taken into custody on Saturday, February 22, 2026, in separate but connected raids.
Deputy Commissioner of Police James Annor, the Ahafo Regional Police Commander, stated at a press conference on Tuesday that the suspects were purportedly plotting a robbery but were thwarted during a late-night patrol along the Ayomso Goaso route.

According to DCOP Annor, police officers from the Regional Taskforce patrol unit were on regular duty at around 11.30 p.m. when they saw Mawutor and Ofori riding an unlicensed motorcycle toward Ayomso, which is close to Goaso, the capital of the Ahafo Region.
According to him, the suspects allegedly turned off the motorcycle’s headlights and tried to run when they saw the cops.
According to DCOP Annor, the patrol team gave them a hot chase and was able to take them into custody.
An AK-47 assault rifle, with serial number 68098152 and 29 rounds of ammo, was found during a search of the two. According to him, they had hidden the weapon in one of the bags they were carrying.
Additional inquiries brought police to Abrodanho, a suburb of Goaso, where a search of Mawutor’s house led to the arrest of a third suspect, Mawuli Dogba.
A Beretta Bruni handgun with serial number MOD.92, an NM157-1941 pistol, 30 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and 50 rounds of AK-47 ammunition were among the items recovered from Mawutor’s room.

In addition to a machete and a bayonet knife, police also seized a Contixo F35 drone and four Motorola phones.
According to preliminary investigations, Mawutor, Dogba, and another suspect named Mohammed-Adinan Ussif, who is now at large, are said to have acquired the firearms on the same day, February 22, 2026, in Techiman in the Bono East Region, according to DCOP Annor.
He stated that attempts were being made to capture the fugitive suspect and any other individuals associated with the case.
The Regional Commander reaffirmed the police’s ongoing commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region and encouraged citizens to provide reliable information to aid crime prevention initiatives.
