In Ghana, a new application has been introduced to assist individuals in checking the marriage status of their possible spouses prior to getting married.
On August 28, 2026, the app, named Marrify, was released in Accra in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP).
The program functions as a searchable electronic registry created to increase openness in the management of marriages. From the courts, assemblies, Ghana Gazette, and Registrar-General’s Department, it obtains legal information.
The program’s objective is to assist people in performing essential checks prior to getting married and to avoid the emotional, financial, and legal problems that might occur if crucial information about a possible spouse is not thoroughly validated.
The Marrify app is a publically searchable platform that allows people to confirm that churches, pastors, Imams, and marriage sites are legally licensed and registered to perform marriages in Ghana, in addition to checking a potential partner’s marital status.
The purpose of the decision is to encourage increased accountability and transparency in marriage administration while assisting potential couples in making more informed judgments prior to committing to marriage.
Strengthening Families and Encouraging Transparency
In her address during the introduction, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, the Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, praised Marry Right Ghana for starting a program that seeks to increase public confidence, accountability, and openness in marriage administration.
Marriage is more than just a legal bond; it has social, cultural, and economic ramifications for people, children, families, and communities, she stressed.
