Eight unauthorized miners were trapped in the collapse of a mining pit in Manso Kaneago, Amansie South Municipality, Ashanti Region, while searching for gold deposits. Seven bodies have been found.
In an effort to recover the last body that is still caught underground, officials from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), the District Security Council (DISEC), and the Police are frantically attempting to do so.
The occurrence happened on Thursday when the mining pit fell as the miners were working there.
According to officials, around 12 miners were working at the location when the event happened. Eight of the remaining miners were trapped underground, but four of them were able to flee.
Investigations are being conducted to identify the precise cause of the collapse, which occurred about 10 p.m. on Thursday.
Members of the District Security Council, the Police, and NADMO are anticipated to come back to the location to carry on with the search and rescue efforts for the final victim.
Benjamin Marfo, the municipal chief executive for Amansie South, briefly spoke to the media and stated that he was leading a team to the location to collect additional information on the occurrence.
According to him, attempts were being made to ascertain the precise circumstances of the miners’ entrapment and the collapse.
The morgue has received the deceased bodies.
