Antoine Semenyo has become the first Ghanaian player to be selected to the PFA Premier League Team of the Year, making history.
After a standout 2025/26 season, the Manchester City striker was recognized at the yearly PFA Awards ceremony on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, where he was included in the esteemed XI.
Along with four Manchester City players, five Arsenal players, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, and Brentford striker Igor Thiago, Semenyo is part of the star-studded roster.
David Raya, William Saliba, Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber, and Gabriel Magalhaes of Arsenal were all included in the team after contributing to the Gunners’ 27 goals allowed, the league’s best defensive record.
Nico O’Reilly, Rayan Cherki, Erling Haaland, and Semenyo are representing Manchester City.
Thiago earns his position after scoring 22 league goals for Brentford, while Fernandes completes the midfield after breaking the Premier League assist record with 21 assists.
Semenyo’s inclusion in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year is a significant milestone for Ghanaian football, as he is the first player to achieve this accomplishment.
After moving to Manchester City, the striker’s increasing position among the Premier League’s top players is highlighted by the award.
O’Reilly was also honored after a breakout season with Manchester City, as he was named the PFA Young Player of the Year.
