Electricity Company of Ghana(ECG) has admitted that countrywide unanticipated electricity outages continue to be a frequent problem, attributing the problems to difficulties within its distribution network. The company said aging equipment, compromised wiring, and overloaded transformers account for the power outages, which have been a problem for the country’s electricity distribution system.
The problem is being resolved through an ambitious program that is being undertaken with the help of the government ECG said in a statement that was released on Tuesday April 28. The Transformer Upgrade and Replacement Program (TURP) is being undertaken in stages all over the regions in which the company operates.
Over 2,500 transformers are being put in place all over the nation in an attempt to boost capacity of the country’s energy sector and make the power supply more reliable. Some of the areas might experience temporary outages because of planned installations that will also be made known to the public.
However, the ECG has been providing assurance that they are working round the clock to fix some areas as technical staff repair any damage and fix things. Because the upgrade and renovation of the infrastructure continue, the company said sorry for any inconveniences and ask customers to bear with them.
“ECG sincerely apologizes for any inconveniences and respectfully asks any affected customer for his/her patience. Our teams are working hard to cover all the areas affected”, the company explained. Customers affected by unplanned power outage(s) are to call ECGs toll-free number, 0302611611.
ECG maintained its determination to make the nation’s energy system one that is stable and sustainable, and said it is working on installing necessary equipment as the upgrade work progress.
