The Ashanti Regional Police Command has apprehended six individuals suspected of being members of or associated with an organized armed robbery organization that operates in some areas of the region.
The Anti-Armed Robbery Unit in Kumasi carried out intelligence-led operations in August 2026 to dismantle armed robbery and other violent crimes in the area, which led to the arrests.
In a statement signed by Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, the Command stated that the suspects had been involved in a number of reported street robbery instances.
Philip Nyarko, also known as “Kawawa,” Hadi Samed, also known as “Toronto,” Issahaku Musah, also known as “Isak,” Suraj Mohammed, also known as “Baba Nde” and “Trouble,” Hadi Abdul Majeed, also known as “Panie,” and Foster Owusu Afriyie, also known as “Joe Fraizer,” are the suspects.
According to the police, early investigations have connected the suspects to robbery occurrences reported at Kaase, Ahinsan Estate, Santasi New Site, Bronikrom, Kwadaso Estate, and other Ashanti Region locales.
The police reported that the investigations have also led to the finding of numerous objects thought to be related to the suspected illegal operations.
Two motorcycles, two machetes, knives, an iPhone 13, five keypad mobile phones, a laptop, and 33 various mobile phones are among the items that have been found.
According to the Command, the retrieved artifacts would be utilized in the continuing investigations as police attempt to determine the full scope of the suspects’ purported participation in the robberies.
Additionally, the Police have requested that anybody who may have lost mobile phones or other valuables during robbery occurrences come forward.
“People who may have lost their cell phones or other possessions during robbery events are urged to get in touch with the police to help identify the items that have been found,” the statement continued.
Additional investigations have resulted in the arrest of Augustine Agyemang Duah, who is suspected by the police of assisting syndicate members in unlocking mobile phones that are thought to have been taken.
The Police stated that investigations were ongoing to ascertain the extent of his participation and to identify others linked to the suspected syndicate, but they did not offer any additional details about his supposed position.
The Police stated that three individuals involved in the situation had previously been known to law enforcement.
According to the Command, Abdul Shattar, Philip Nyarko, alias “Kawawa,” and Hadi Samed, alias “Toronto,” were taken into custody on December 6, 2025, on suspicion of attempting to rob and conspire to commit crime, particularly robbery.
After that, they were brought before the Asokwa Circuit Court 1 and given bond.
“The case is still pending before the court,” the police said.
According to the Command, studies revealed that some of the accused individuals allegedly continued their criminal activities after their release.
Presently, Abdul Shattar is sought after by the authorities and is still at large.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command stated that it was intensifying efforts to apprehend Abdul Shattar and other suspected syndicate members.
People like Andy, Umaru, Dauda, Malik, and Abdul Farouk are among those being pursued.
Members of the public who may have information about the whereabouts of the wanted individuals have been asked by the Police to contact the authorities.
The Command, however, warned the public against taking matters into their own hands.
The statement stated that “Members of the public with information on the whereabouts of these individuals are encouraged to contact the Police and are advised not to confront or attempt to apprehend any suspect themselves.”
According to the police, the investigation is still ongoing as officers attempt to determine the entire extent of the alleged criminal actions, identify other suspects, and find more stolen property.
The suspects who have been taken into custody will be handled in line with Ghanaian law before the suitable court for arraignment.
Residents, especially those in the Kumasi Metropolis, were also guaranteed by the Ashanti Regional Police Command that it would keep using intelligence-led and targeted operations to fight violent crime.
