Ghanaian actor and filmmaker Joseph Van Vicker has filed a defamation lawsuit against fellow actor and comedian Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win, at the High Court in Accra, seeking GH¢10 million in exemplary damages over statements he claims have damaged his professional reputation.
The legal action follows a viral social media video allegedly published on TikTok and Facebook on August 13, 2026, under the headline, “LIL WIN BANS VAN VICKER FROM ACTING IN KUMASI!”
According to reports on the court documents, Van Vicker argues that statements made in the video portrayed him as dishonest, unprofessional and unreliable in his dealings within Ghana’s movie industry.
What Triggered the Lawsuit?
The dispute reportedly centres on a disagreement involving a film production and the professional responsibilities Van Vicker was expected to fulfil.
In the video, Lil Win allegedly accused Van Vicker of making false claims about him and failing to meet certain professional commitments. The statements also reportedly touched on Van Vicker’s involvement in the upcoming movie project Journey to Africa.
Van Vicker disputes the allegations, maintaining that the statements misrepresented his character and professional conduct. He argues that the publication went beyond a disagreement between industry colleagues and exposed him to public ridicule.
Van Vicker Claims His Reputation Has Been Damaged
In his statement of claim, Van Vicker alleges that the publication has negatively affected his professional relationships and created uncertainty among producers and other industry players about his availability for film projects in Kumasi.
He further claims that the controversy has affected his work opportunities and caused him considerable distress.
The actor maintains that he has built his career as an actor, producer and director through professional engagements and argues that the alleged statements threaten the reputation he has established over the years.
These claims form part of Van Vicker’s case and have not yet been established by a court.
What Is Van Vicker Demanding?
Van Vicker is asking the High Court to grant several forms of relief, including:
• GH¢10 million in exemplary damages.
• General damages for alleged libel.
• A public retraction of the disputed statements.
• A public apology on news portals with the same prominence as the original publications for four consecutive weeks.
• Payment of legal costs.
He is also seeking an order to prevent further publication of the statements he considers defamatory.
What Happens Next?
According to reports on the writ of summons, Lil Win is required to enter an appearance within eight days of being served with the court documents, including the day of service.
Failure to comply with the court’s requirements could result in judgment being entered in his absence, subject to the applicable court procedures.
As of October 13, 2026, reports indicated that the allegations had not been determined by the court. The filing of a lawsuit does not mean that the defendant has been found liable, and the case remains subject to the legal process.
