The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCO) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) are going to undertake important upgrades on a major transmission line. As a result, residents of Kumasi and its surroundings will experience planned power interruptions between Friday, October 30, and Sunday, November 29, 2026.
The 161kV Anwomaso–Ahodwo (K1–K2) Transmission Line Upgrade Project has reached 70% completion, according to a joint statement made in Tema on Thursday, October 29 by the two utility companies, which are being overseen by the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition. This represents a huge step forward in improving the dependability of electricity delivery in the Ashanti Region. The end of November 2026 is the deadline for the project.
The project has reached a crucial phase that includes stringing transmission conductors on the towers, according to the corporations. To ensure the safety of engineers, other project employees, and the public, this work necessitates deliberate electricity supply outages to certain communities along the line route.
The scheduled power interruptions to communities along the line route in Kumasi will thus begin on Friday, October 30, and run through Sunday, November 29, weekends excluded. In accordance with the planned schedule, communities along the line route will experience power outages between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on days when the stringing reaches their section. The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will release a thorough timetable detailing the affected areas and the associated outage dates, allowing customers to plan appropriately.
GRIDCo and ECG recognized the inconvenience that the planned outages will cause homes, companies, and other power customers and pleaded with the public, especially the affected areas, to be patient, understanding, and cooperate during the time. The companies said that the project is a significant investment in improving the transmission network and boosting the dependability of electricity delivery in the Ashanti Region, even if the brief outages are essential to ensure the safety of employees and the effective completion of the works. They sincerely apologised for the inconvenience and reassured the public of their dedication to finishing the project on schedule and safely.
