Ghana’s immediate objective is to qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations while laying the groundwork for the 2030 World Cup, according to Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz.
With a challenging travel to Côte d’Ivoire, facing the Elephants at the Stade de la Paix in Bouaké on September 24, Ghana will kick off its AFCON qualifying campaign later this month.
On September 27th, Queiroz will seek to get Group C off to a strong start by playing The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium.
After choosing his 24-man roster for the first qualifiers, Queiroz stated in an interview with Ghana Football Association (GFA) media that the team should concentrate on the immediate assignment while maintaining a long-term goal.
He stated, “Hands on the present, eyes on the future. The priority is very clear: absolute focus on AFCON qualification, with our eyes set on the 2030 World Cup.”
“We have a larger goal in front of us, but we also have a prompt goal that needs our complete attention.”
“This is the time to start creating the squad for 2030, a squad that can really live up to Ghana’s incredible World Cup legacy.”
Having missed out on qualifying for the 2025 tournament in Morocco, Ghana is trying to make a comeback to the AFCON.
The Black Stars will play a friendly against Morocco at the Grand Stade de Tanger on October 4 to cap off the international window after their first qualifiers.
Queiroz, who is 73 years old, was named the head coach of Ghana earlier this year and is responsible for leading the Black Stars through the upcoming stage of their growth.
The immediate objective is still qualification for the 2027 AFCON, since Ghana’s campaign begins against Côte d’Ivoire.
