Parliament has been asked by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to summon Mr. Kofi Iddie Adams, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, and the CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority to respond to inquiries regarding alleged visa fraud related to travel arrangements for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The party is also calling for a public inquiry into the allegations, the disclosure of all papers pertaining to the arrangements, and a specific timetable for investigations into the subject.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, October 15, 2026, the Director of Communications for the party, Mr. Dennis Miracles Aboagye, stated that the Parliament’s Youth and Sports Committee needed to investigate the claims to ascertain what occurred and identify those accountable.
“Parliament must intervene and summon their member who is the Minister for Sports and Recreation, summon the CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority to answer questions on the floor of the House and to the Youth and Sports Committee so that we will have clarity,” he said.
He stated that the investigation would reassure Ghana’s foreign partners that the claimed fraudulent actions were not approved by the state and that those implicated would be held responsible.
Mr Aboagye further implored the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to inform the public about its meetings with the American and Canadian embassies and to outline procedures to safeguard Ghanaian tourists from any negative consequences.
Requested paperwork
In addition, the party requested the release of all papers pertaining to the arrangements, including the memorandum of understanding between Tribe Culture FEST and the National Sports Authority, the Ghana Tourism Authority’s agreement with the business, the lists provided to both embassies, and a letter from the Foreign Affairs Ministry dated May 28, 2026.
Mr Aboagye advised the government to defend people who had allegedly paid the Ghana Tourism Authority or the National Sports Authority for visa and travel help and to make sure that the funds were retrieved and reimbursed to them.
“The government must safeguard applicants who paid the National Sports Authority or the Tourism Authority. Many of them were average Ghanaians who believed in the name of a public organization. They should be encouraged to speak out without fear, and any money that is recovered should be given back to them,” he stated.
Additionally, he demanded a clear deadline for the investigation and the release of a report after it was over, cautioning that lengthy investigations without obvious results may feed suspicions of a cover-up. The demands follow allegations that over US$600,000 was taken from those looking for help with visa applications and trip arrangements for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
NSA Director-General: Clarification Needed
Amid competing reports as to whether he has been fired or suspended as a result of the purported World Cup visa incident, the party also requests that the Presidency clarify the position of Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, the Director-General of the National Sports Authority.
The Presidency, according to Mr Aboagye, has to specify the action taken against Mr Ampofo Ankrah and reveal the terms linked to it. He questioned the timing of the President’s move, claiming that it was made just after the public and the Parliamentary Minority put pressure on him.
However, President John Dramani Mahama took action on October 1 after calls for the NSA Director-General’s removal grew more intense, even though a petition had been sent to the Criminal Investigation Department on September 8, 2026.
Mr. Aboagye stated that the contradictory reports regarding Mr. Ampofo Ankrah’s position had made it unclear what kind of action had been taken against him.
“Some official account says that the National Sports Authority Director General, Mr Ampofo Ankrah, has been dismissed. Others say he was suspended pending investigation. Which is which? Ghanaians deserve a clear statement from the Presidency,” he said.
The dispute originated from claims of inconsistencies in the visa arrangements made for Ghanaians and officials who desired to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
