In Kumasi’s KNUST campus, a police pickup truck carrying suspected cannabis smokers collided with a commercial automobile.
The Ayeduase traffic light at KNUST was the scene of the incident.
According to reports, the police pickup, registered GP 1035, was transporting about seven suspected cannabis users to the police station after they were taken into custody during an operation.
According to reports, the police car crashed with the trotro, registration AS 37 55-22, while crossing the traffic lights.
According to witnesses, the collision occurred when the police car entered the intersection at a high speed with its siren on, while the traffic light for the trotro had turned green.
Passengers on the trotro, police officers, and a number of people, including some of the alleged marijuana smokers, were hurt.
After that, the wounded were taken to the KNUST Hospital for treatment.
An eyewitness stated that “one police officer received severe wounds and fell at the scene, but was immediately picked up by KNUST patrol cars to the hospital to save his life, and no one died.”
Other police officers later removed the cars from the road to relieve the traffic problem, but the collision caused a major traffic bottleneck on the KNUST campus.
