A fire has erupted in the North industrial district of Accra, and attempts to put out the blaze are reportedly failing as it worsens.
Smoke and fire were noticed coming from an area inside the industrial enclave when the fire began in the early hours of Thursday, October 1, 2026.
Limited details on the occurrence are available. The extent of the damage, the cause of the fire, and whether there are any casualties are still unclear.
A witness stated that residents were unable to identify the source of the fire and that the fire appeared to be exacerbated by the absence of quick help.

“We have no idea what caused the fire. All we know is that the fire is burning from above. We have no one to help, so the fire has escalated,” the eyewitness stated.
Two fire tenders have arrived at the site in the meantime, but they claim the fire is still raging.
However, another witness claimed that some residents were allegedly impeding the Ghana National Fire Service personnel who came to the scene, making it difficult for them to get to the region.
The eyewitness pleaded with residents to make way for the firefighters so they could access the affected area and put out the fire.
“The locals want to fight the Fire Service even if it came to help. They are refusing to just make way for them to pass through. That’s what will happen,” the eyewitness added.
