Carlos Queiroz has revealed that he and the Ghana Football Association have amicably agreed to end his deal as the Black Stars’ head coach.
In a statement released on Thursday, October 1, after discussions with the GFA, the Portuguese coach made the announcement, saying that both parties had agreed that ending their relationship was the most appropriate course of action under the circumstances.
Queiroz stated that the decision was challenging but that the interests of Ghana, the Black Stars, and Ghanaian football had to come first.
Ghana’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign began with a 2-0 loss to Côte d’Ivoire and a 4-2 loss to The Gambia, which prompted his departure.
Queiroz said that the results helped lead to the decision, but also stated that “the necessary conditions were not fully established” for his position with the national team.
He expressed gratitude to the GFA and its president for the chance to serve Ghana and the Black Stars. “It has been an honor,” he added.
He also expressed gratitude to his players and technical team, and he pleaded with Ghanaians to keep backing the squad.
Queiroz said, “Believe in them. Protect them. Support them.”
“The talent and potential are there. If this generation receives the correct environment, support, and unity, it can accomplish remarkable things for Ghana.”
Queiroz, who was first assigned to supervise the Black Stars’ preparations for the 2026 World Cup before the 2027 AFCON qualifiers began, assumed command of the Black Stars in April 2026. He was re-appointed as the head coach of the Black Stars on September 2 in order to carry on in that position.
As Ghana strives to resuscitate its AFCON qualifying campaign, his exit forces the GFA to choose a new head coach.
