The Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi is ready to host top-flight football once again after three months of intensive rehabilitation work on the playing surface.
This follows a major maintenance effort led by the National Sports Authority (NSA) – Ashanti Regional staff and the stadium’s dedicated groundsmen to resuscitate the pitch, which had deteriorated in recent months.
As seen in the video, the pitch has been fully revived – lush green, leveled, and near ready to host the 3rd edition of the Democracy Cup.
The mouthwatering encounter will feature Ghana’s biggest football rivalry, Asante Kotoko vs Accra Hearts of Oak, on Friday, August 28, 2026, at 4:00 PM.
The Democracy Cup was instituted by Parliament to commemorate Ghana’s parliamentary democracy and promote national unity through football.
The National Sports Authority, Ashanti Region, wishes to express its profound gratitude to the Director General of the NSA, Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, and all stakeholders for their unwavering support, commitment, and resources that have enhanced the condition of the stadium.
