The Mankessim-Accra route in the Central Region witnessed the demolition of a Yutong passenger bus on Wednesday, July 8, after it caught fire, damaging commercial commodities and passengers’ possessions.
After getting a distress call at approximately 4:34 a.m. stating that a car was on fire on the congested route, emergency personnel responded quickly, according to a Facebook post made by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
Within minutes, firefighters were alerted and arrived at the site, only to discover the bus had burned down entirely. Prior to the arrival of the firefighters, passengers and passers-by made desperate attempts to put out the fire, but the strength of the flames rendered their efforts futile.
When they arrived, the Officer-in-Charge instructed the firemen to lay hoses and begin a complete firefighting effort.
To keep the fire from spreading to adjacent vegetation or vehicles along the roadside, the firefighters put in a lot of effort.
The fire was put under control and put out completely at roughly 7:12 a.m. after many hours of operations.
Preliminary investigations suggest that an electrical fault caused the fire.
The Yutong bus was completely destroyed by the fire, rendering it irreparable. Along with about twenty boxes of drinks that were being transported on board, it also used up the personal property and luggage of the passengers.
Firefighters were able to retrieve some of the travelers’ belongings and personal items before they were destroyed by the fire, despite the considerable damage, assisting to reduce the losses experienced by those traveling on the bus.
After the fire was successfully put out, the crew did safety checks to make sure there was no possibility of it reigniting, and then they secured the area before leaving around 7:18 a.m.
There were no reports of casualties during the occurrence.
