As tensions increase between Israeli forces and Hezbollah, a missile attack on a UN peacekeeping mission base in South Lebanon has severely wounded two Ghanaian soldiers.
In a statement published by the Ghana Armed Forces on Friday, March 6, 2026, the Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters, which is under the command of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), was targeted by a missile strike during an ongoing battle between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Lebanese terrorist organization Hezbollah.
According to the military, the event occurred at dusk over a short period of time.
The announcement said that “two missile attacks hit the Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters in UNIFIL, Lebanon, between 1745 and 1752 hours local time today.”
The incident resulted in two soldiers suffering life-threatening injuries and one peacekeeper experiencing trauma, according to the Ghana Armed Forces.
The announcement stated that “two troops are critically injured, while one other has been traumatized.”
The strike also caused significant destruction to the infrastructure within the Ghanaian camp. The Officers’ Mess building at the base was completely destroyed by a fire.
The Officers’ Mess facility was also struck and demolished, according to the army.

Military authorities claim that the wounded soldiers are currently in stable condition and being treated in a medical center on the UN base.
The statement continued, “The injured are receiving treatment at the Level One Medical Bunker and are currently stable while arrangements are underway for their evacuation to the UNIFIL Headquarters Referral Hospital.”
In the aftermath of the attack, the Ghana Armed Forces assured the Ghanaian public that the remaining troops stationed at the base are still safe.
“The Ghana Armed Forces would want to reassure the public that the soldiers are now safe in subterranean bunkers in the midst of the dangerous scenario,” the statement said.
The Ghanaian government has, in the interim, taken diplomatic action as a result of the incident. Through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government has made an official complaint to the UN headquarters in New York.
Furthermore, the government has urged all parties to the conflict to fulfill their international obligations regarding the protection of peacekeeping troops.
In addition, the Ghana Armed Forces urged the warring parties in the area to exercise restraint and ensure the safety of UN peacekeepers stationed there.
The attack takes place in the midst of escalating conflict and gunfire in Southern Lebanon, where UN peacekeeping forces are still monitoring the volatile boundary between Israel and Hezbollah.
Ghana has historically been one of the leading troop contributors to UN peacekeeping operations, with soldiers deployed in several conflict zones around the globe.
