A serial murderer was given a life sentence by the High Court in Wa after admitting to committing several murders in the Upper West and Savannah areas.
On March 4, 2026, the Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service in the Upper West Region released a press statement announcing the Court’s sentence against Shariff Abdulai, also known as “Cristos,” for killing Issah Yahaya and 22 other people.
Abdulai confessed to killing 16 people in Wa, 5 in Bole, and 1 in each of Banda Nkwanta and Bamboi, the statement said.
The prisoner was taken into custody on October 6, 2025, according to police, after a string of intelligence-led searches and operations.
After committal proceedings at the District Magistrate Court, he was later arraigned before the High Court in Wa on March 4, 2026. Abdulai, who was represented by an attorney, entered a plea of guilty to the charges.
The presiding judge, Justice Osei-Wusu Antwi, gave him a life sentence of hard labor at his own request.
The statement revealed that the offender will be imprisoned in the Nsawam Medium Security Prison.
The Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining the rule of law and reassured the populace that it will continue its efforts to provide a safe and secure environment for law-abiding citizens.
