An honorary PhD in Public Administration was awarded to John Dramani Mahama at Yonsei University’s Seoul, South Korea campus. This recognition acknowledges Mahama’s exemplary service towards the advancement and development of Ghana, and his contribution toward building relationships between the two countries in both the national and international communities. The University Administration conducted the presentation during President Mahama’s five-day visit to East Asia, as a way of honoring the President, who was traveling with members of his entourage.
The presentation of the honorary degree was made by President Dong Sup Yoon and Dean Hyun-Chul Kim, of the Graduate School of Yonsei University. During his comment of acceptance and appreciation, President Mahama expressed his gratitude to the Korean people and the government for their gracious hospitality during his visit.

He also expressed his gratitude to the members of the Board of Trustees, President Dong Sup Yoon, faculty, staff, and students of Yonsei University for their role in creating such a special occasion for him. “I say Kam Sa Ham Ni Da (thank you) in Korean,” stated Mahama.
“I want to accept this degree that you are conferring on me today on behalf of the people of Ghana and as a sign of our sisterhood and brotherhood between our two countries.”

The president expressed his wish for a deepening and strengthening of the relationship between Korea and Ghana.
He stated: “Let us all commit to making a choice for peace instead of conflict; for cooperation instead of confrontation; and for hope instead of despair.”

He concluded by saying: “Let us always lead by example truthfully and strive toward excellence. I will also say “Hwaiting” (You can do this) to all of the young people in Korea, particularly those who attend Yonsei University.”
