The Ministry of Health received approval from the government to settle outstanding salary arrears owed to nurses and midwives, who were hired during the 2024/2025 recruitment year, based on the results of negotiations with the Ministry of Finance.
According to a press release issued on Thursday, February 26, the approval to pay out the arrears has been broken down into four payments from April until July following negotiations with the Ministry of Finance.
The payment plan for the four months consists of: 2 months (April), 3 months (May), 3 months (June), and 3 months (July).
In its press release, the Ministry of Health stated that this arrangement indicates the government’s commitment to paying all outstanding debt in a timely, responsible, and sustainable way.
The Ministry of Health thanked the nurses and midwives for having displayed patience, professionalism, and a continued commitment to service delivery, despite the delay in receiving their salaries.
The Ministry of Health also thanked the Ministry of Finance for prioritizing the resolution of this issue.
The government restated their commitment to the welfare, motivation, and well-being of health workers throughout the nation, emphasizing that improving the conditions of service for health workers across the nation was the cornerstone for improving the overall delivery of health care across the entire country.
