President John Dramani Mahama has inaugurated the Sahara LPG Vessel as part of the effort to develop and enhance Ghana’s energy infrastructure and to promote the transition to cleaner energy sources.
“This is much more than just a ceremonial event,” President Mahama said; the commissioning of this vessel is “a very important foundation for improving the global liquefied petroleum gas supply chain”.

He explained that the issues of access to energy as well as transitioning to cleaner energy sources are two of the major challenges we face today, and that “liquefied petroleum gas continues to form part of the solution for both”.
The president also discussed the importance of creating partnerships. He stated that the Sahara LPG project is an example of how “the effects of strategic partnerships and forward-looking investments are having a positive effect on Ghana, on West Africa and on the overall energy security of the continent”.

President Mahama concluded by saying that Ghana has the potential to transform trade with liquefied petroleum gas, to support economic development and to provide citizens with greater access to clean energy through the use of the Sahara LPG Vessel, just like many other countries in West Africa.

According to the Ghanaian Government, the commissioning of the Sahara LPG Vessel is a significant contribution to Ghana’s energy infrastructure and the embrace of sustainable and modern forms of fuel
The vessel called The Asharami Ghana was commissioned in South Korea on March 12.
