According to the Ministry of Transport, the name of Kotoka International Airport has been officially changed back to its previous name, Accra International Airport.
The Ministry said in a press release dated February 23, 2026, that the move brings the airport back to its “former and internationally recognized name”, adding that it was previously known as Accra International Airport before it was given a new name.
The renaming will not have an impact on airport operations, safety regulations, or foreign travel arrangements, according to the statement.
To emphasize continuity in worldwide aviation systems, the Ministry emphasized that the airport code has remained “ACC” in the records of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
The modification will be implemented through a “systematic update of official documentation, statutory instruments where necessary, airport signage, digital platforms, aviation publications, and related communication materials,” according to the ministry.
It urged the public, stakeholders, and international partners to help and collaborate with the appropriate authorities in order to ensure what it referred to as a “smooth and seamless transition.”
In a statement released by the Ministry of Transportation’s Public Relations Unit, gratitude was given to all parties for their ongoing collaboration.
