On the morning of March 11, 2026, in the vicinity of Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates, two Ghananian citizens were injured as a result of a drone attack (in an area that has seen heightening tensions between the U.S and those living in the ME against terrorism. These unfortunate circumstances have also brought into question how countries involved in the war on terror cooperate with each other).
Presently, both injured Ghananians are receiving medical attention at the hospital in Dubai where they have been visited by members of the diplomatic mission representing Ghana’s interests. In a communication issued by the Foreign Affairs ministry at Accra on March 11, 2026, the Ghanaian Foreign Minister confirmed that the authorities in the UAE provided this information to the Ghanaian Foreign Ministry.
The Government of Ghana emphasized that both injured individuals did not sustain any fatal injuries as their respective injuries received from the drone incident are not threatening (to life). We expect them to recover completely in the near future. At this time, we continue to provide continued support and assistance and work with country representatives to provide these two individuals with aid.
The attack has also been condemned by the Government of Ghana In a formal statement. The Government has condemned the actions leading to the injuries sustained by both individuals, indicating that an attack against civilian’s premise also poses a major risk to the general public. The Ghanaian Government strongly disavows all operations that jeopardize the safety of civilians and the critical infrastructure of the UAE.
According to the ministry, they will monitor the Middle East situation very closely, and communicate with all appropriate agencies as necessary. The government extended it’s condolences to the victims and their families, and stated that this event raises serious issues of concern.
In reiterating its commitment to the protection of their countrymen who are living outside of Ghana, the ministry is working with the United Nations to continue to provide assistance to their fellow Ghanaians when there is an international event that affects their citizens.
The ministry stated, “The government will be providing all necessary coordination and leadership to Ghana representatives located around the world, and will continue to keep you informed about current developments regarding this incident.” The ministry urged all Ghanaians living in the Gulf Region to exercise caution and comply with all directions received from their embassy, as well as directives from local authorities.
A chain of events led up to the incident occurring after joint military operations were conducted by United States and Israeli forces in Iran starting on February 28, 2026. Media reports indicate that after these joint military operations, there were a number of countries that encountered attacks on United States military installations, which are designed to create issues.
The Dubai airport drone incident represents one of a number of attacks targeting civilians, along with multiple attacks against schools, hotels and homes across several locations. According to the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), there have been over 1,262 deaths from acts of violence against civilians since the conflict began, including over 200 children.
