The Pre-Tertiary Teachers’ Association of Ghana (PRETAG), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), three teachers’ unions, have ended their industrial action after holding negotiations with the Council of State and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC).
It is hoped that the suspension will allow more discussion on the outstanding issues that prompted the industrial action.
Thomas Musah, the general secretary of the GNAT, said the choice was made after discussions with the Council of State and the Ministry of Employment about problems impacting teachers.

He declared, “We would want to make it public that we have put an end to the strike right now. We would like to request that all of our members return to the classrooms.”
The unions began the strike in response to continuing issues with promotions, service conditions, and allowances for disadvantaged areas.
The primary concerns brought up by PRETAG, NAGRAT, and GNAT were the delays in paying promotion-related arrears.
To discuss the worries around pre-tertiary teachers’ industrial activity, the Council of State invited representatives from the unions to a meeting on October 9.
