In order to increase network capacity and enhance service quality around the country, MTN Ghana is going to use its current spectrum holdings in conjunction with the recently allotted 5G spectrum, which is valued at US$202 million.
The supplementary spectrum is predicted to facilitate the expansion of home connectivity and 5G mobile services as well as satisfy the rising need for high-speed connection.
Following word from the National Communications Authority (NCA) that MTN Ghana has been granted spectrum in the 700 MHz and 3 GHz bands for 5G and mobile broadband services, the event occurs.
MTN Ghana will receive 150 MHz in the 3 GHz band and two 20 MHz blocks in the 700 MHz band; these licenses will be valid for 15 years. For the spectrum, MTN Ghana is expected to pay US$202 million overall, with US$100.9 million going towards the 700 MHz allocation and US$101.1 million going towards the 3 GHz allocation.
The company stated that it is completing the formalities and payment obligations related to the licence purchase, and that spectrum payments have already been included in its equity free cash flow forecast.
Increasing network capacity MTN Ghana stated that the additional spectrum will supplement its current spectrum stock and offer more capacity as the need for data and high-speed connection grows.
The operator hopes that the investment will improve the network’s performance, quality of service, and consumer experience throughout the nation. “The Company will utilize the 5G spectrum in addition to its current spectrum stock to improve network capacity, raise service quality, and enhance customer experience throughout Ghana after the spectrum permits have been issued,” the company stated in a statement.
Supporting home connectivity and 5G The additional spectrum will also be essential for speeding up the expansion of 5G mobility and moving forward with MTN Ghana’s intentions for home connectivity, the firm stated. More high-speed connections may be supported by the increased capacity, allowing the operator to manage the growing data traffic from homes and businesses.
Therefore, the investment significantly increases MTN Ghana’s spectrum resources and improves its ability to expand 5G services as demand for quicker and more dependable connectivity rises. As MTN Ghana finishes the licensing process and moves forward with the deployment of the recently granted spectrum and high-speed 5G services, it stated it would keep the market informed of important changes.
