Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, the director general of the National Sports Authority (NSA), has reportedly received a death threat from former professional boxer Michael Ayitey Okai, also known as “Ayitey Powers,” according to the Accra Regional Police Command.
In a statement, the police claimed the alleged threat was made on Monday, August 24, 2026.
After a video circulated on social media in which the 46-year-old was claimed to have threatened Mr Ampofo Ankrah, he was taken into custody.
According to Ayitey Powers’ viral video, he went to the NSA Director General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah’s office and charged him with canceling a promotion he had previously scheduled.
Additionally, he attacked the NSA for what he termed insufficient support for boxing, claiming that the circumstance had hurt his boxing promotion.
Ayitey Powers went on to say that Mr Ampofo Ankrah had refused to answer his calls before threatening to “do something” if the situation persisted.
According to the authorities, Ayitey Powers is now locked up and helping with the investigation.
The probe is ongoing to ascertain the conditions surrounding the purported threat, according to the Accra Regional Police Command.
It went on to say that appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the law, based on the findings of the inquiry.
While investigations are ongoing, the Police have begged the public to avoid disseminating unverified information.
