According to Nana Ama McBrown, all of the script and cinematography for her next movie, Ama, were done in Twi, with no English utilized.
Speaking on Hitz FM’s Cruise Control alongside Mercury Quaye and Maame Adwoa Akotaah, McBrown disclosed that the movie was entirely scripted in Twi, and the actors were obligated to meticulously adhere to the written dialogue during the entire production.
According to her, the choice was a component of the film’s creative vision and was made with the intention of telling the story in Ghana’s indigenous language with authenticity.
“It’s a typical Ghanaian film with no English. The script was written in Twi. We went with the conversations as they appeared in the script’s lines. We never wavered on that,” she explained.
McBrown discussed the plot, stating that the tale focuses on a young woman who has her own dreams and aspirations, and whose parents try to force their judgments on her rather than providing her guidance.
“The story is about a young girl who has a vision, but sometimes your parents want you to do what they want, forgetting that they need to guide you and not impose their decisions on you,” she said.
McBrown stated that Ama explores themes such as forced marriage, honesty, tradition, parental advice, and the laws of the nation, bringing up problems that are still pertinent to Ghanaian society.
In addition to herself and actor-comedian Dr. Likee, she also stated that the majority of the performers in the film are rookies.
She said, “The film has new actors, and Likee and I are the only famous faces in the picture. That is one of my favorite aspects about it.”
McBrown said that she was inspired to work with fresh talent after having a chance to do so at the outset of her own career.
She remembered that Miracle Films provided her with a chance in 2001, which helped her start a career in the Ghanaian film industry.
She said, “I got the chance 25 years ago in 2001 from Miracle Films, and I’m always happy to talk about him.”
“I want somebody to experience that feeling about me too,” she stated, outlining her aim to establish possibilities for up-and-coming actors in the same manner that someone previously did for her.
Ama is slated to make her premiere on Saturday, August 15, 2026, as part of events commemorating McBrown’s 25th year in the Ghanaian entertainment industry.
