From Tuesday, June 9 to Thursday, June 11, 2026, the Barekese Water Treatment Plant will be undergoing important maintenance. This work is expected to cause temporary water outages for residents in Kumasi and the surrounding areas.
In a statement released on June 5, Ghana Water Limited (GWL) explained that the maintenance involves repairs to the treatment plant’s transmission pipeline. This work is crucial for keeping the water supply reliable and ensuring that services continue without interruption.

The treatment plant will be closed starting at 6:00 a.m. on June 9, and it will remain shut down until 6:00 a.m. on June 11. GWL emphasized that these repairs are necessary to maintain the integrity of the pipeline and ensure it operates smoothly.
To help ease any inconvenience from the temporary water shortages, GWL encourages residents and businesses in Kumasi and nearby areas to store enough water before the maintenance begins.
GWL apologized for any trouble these repairs might cause and assured everyone that they would resume normal water production and delivery as soon as the work is completed. They also asked for the public’s understanding and cooperation during this time.
Lastly, GWL urged customers to stay updated by following their official communication channels for the latest information related to the maintenance.
